The outdoor apparel brand Arc'teryx is set to release its latest evolution of the Beta Jacket, the Beta AR, on July 31, 2023. This innovative jacket boasts a combination of enhanced durability, weight savings, and leading-edge sustainability, thanks to the adoption of PFAS-free Gore-Tex PRO ePE technology and improved materials and manufacturing approaches.

At the heart of the Beta AR is the Gore-Tex PRO ePE membrane, the first PFAS-free waterproof membrane used by Arc’teryx. This elite protection offers a lighter footprint and better long-term durability than previous Gore-Tex versions, without compromising waterproof performance.

To increase durability, the Beta AR features a higher-denier nylon face fabric paired with the lighter ePE membrane, making it more abrasion-resistant and rugged compared to past models, yet without added weight.

Sustainability improvements are evident throughout the jacket, with the membranes, face fabrics, and Durable Water Repellent (DWR) all being PFAS-free. This elimination of harmful “forever chemicals” common in waterproof outerwear significantly reduces the environmental impact.

Design refinements include a new pattern cutting process aimed at reducing fabric waste during production, enhancing sustainability further. The Beta AR has also passed Gore’s highest waterproofing and durability standards, ensuring robust performance in harsh mountain environments.

Other notable features of the Beta AR include durable internal cordlocks in the hood for adjustability, a helmet-compatible DropHood construction, and hand pockets that have been moved for easier access while wearing a backpack.

Arc'teryx is also committed to sustainability beyond the Beta AR, as demonstrated by its ReBird program and trade-in program for upgrading older Beta jackets in North America. The brand will continue to sell older model Beta jackets beyond the initial 2025 deadline.

The Beta AR jacket will be available from July 31 in sizes XXS to XXL, across multiple colorways. By choosing the Beta AR, outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the benefits of cutting-edge technology and design, all while supporting Arc'teryx's ongoing commitment to sustainability.

Investing in the Beta AR jacket from Arc'teryx aligns with an eco-conscious lifestyle, as it incorporates sustainable materials and designs in its home-and-garden, reducing the use of harmful chemicals and promoting fabric waste reduction. Additionally, the home-and-garden commitment extends beyond the Beta AR jacket, with Arc'teryx's ReBird program and trade-in program focusing on sustainability.
