2024 Garden Rose Design Contest Winners Visit Sustainable Alexandra Farms

A group of floral enthusiasts, including Marcy Almoney, the first-place winner in the 2024 Garden Rose Design Contest's Everyday Design category, recently embarked on a transformative journey to Bogota and Alexandra Farms.

The visit began with an early breakfast and warm greetings before a full day of tours and presentations at the San Ignacio farm. The group was guided through the dahlia greenhouse, given talks on composting, diversification, and even a glimpse into the farm's garden rose greenhouses. A highlight for many visitors was the opportunity to view the trial greenhouse and unreleased varieties.

On the second day, the group visited El Jardin farm, where they participated in a dahlia presentation, a rose grafting exercise, a post-harvest tour, and a fragrance workshop. The day concluded with constructing flower arrangements, a traditional dance performance by the Alexandra Farms staff, and socializing with other visitors.

Throughout the visit, Alexandra Farms prioritized sustainability, showcasing their eco-friendly rose varieties and educational workshops highlighting responsible farming methods. These workshops covered the farm's approaches to water management, waste reduction, and social responsibility, consistent with Florverde's criteria applied during the 2024 certification audit.
