The Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince William and Kate Middleton, are reportedly contemplating a move from their current residence, Adelaide Cottage, to Fort Belvedere, a historic gothic-revival mansion in Windsor Great Park [1][2][3].

Adelaide Cottage, a four-bedroom property, has been a "safe haven" for the family for the past three years. However, the family seems to have outgrown this relatively modest abode, seeking a more substantial property [1][2].

Fort Belvedere, an 18th-century country house, offers a more spacious living space. Spanning over 59 acres, the property boasts amenities such as an outdoor swimming pool, tennis court, rose and walled gardens, greenhouse, stables, lakes, paddocks, and staff cottages [1][3]. These facilities, particularly the tennis court, are appealing to the family, especially to Princess Charlotte, who reportedly enjoys playing tennis [1][3].

The family has previously considered other housing options, including the Royal Lodge, currently occupied by Prince Andrew, and a wing in Windsor Castle itself. However, these options are no longer on the table [1].

The Royal Lodge, a seven-bedroom property, is considered integral to the royal estate, being a Grade II listed property [1]. The Wales family was the first on the list to be offered the Royal Lodge last year, but it has not been chosen as their new home [1].

The current lease of Fort Belvedere is held by the Weston family, descendants of Canadian billionaire Galen Weston, who acquired the lease in the early 1980s [4]. This lease arrangement raises questions about the logistics and timing of any potential move, as the property is not immediately vacant [4].

Despite the potential move, the Wales family continues to live a refreshingly normal home life with their children, maintaining their commitment to a normal family dynamic [1].

Gareth Russell, a royal expert, explained their lack of interest in moving home, stating that the family is content where they are at Adelaide Cottage for now [1]. The family's public appearances have increased this year, with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis making more appearances [1].

The latest updates indicate that while the move to Fort Belvedere is being considered, it is not imminent, and no official confirmation has been made yet [1][2][3][4]. The Prince and Princess of Wales remain the most-talked-about family this summer, with their potential relocation plans continuing to be a topic of interest.

  1. The style of Fort Belvedere, with its spacious rooms, outdoor facilities, and historical charm, appears to align with the family's fashionable and tasteful lifestyle.
  2. The beauty of Fort Belvedere's expansive gardens, home to roses, lakes, and walled gardens, could inspire Princess Kate, known for her love of home-and-garden projects, to carry out her own projects at the new residence.
  3. As the family considers moving to Fort Belvedere, they might adopt a new approach to their home-and-garden design, potentially incorporating their recent experiences and interests into refreshing the property's aesthetic, much like Kate Middleton has done with their current residence, Adelaide Cottage.
