Self-Sheltering Initiative: Seeking Refuge in One's Own Dwellings

In the midst of living through the ongoing pandemic, the author reflects on the present moment and its inherent importance. She admits to feeling uneasy at the thought of looking too far ahead, as the urgency and immediacy of the present seems overwhelming. The author identifies her restless nature, with its constant pursuit of the next adventure—whether it be a mountain journey, a new book, or a life-changing meeting—as the source of her discomfort.

However, she finds solace in the phrase "Be a refuge to yourself," which she encounters in a book. This phrase now serves as the foundation for her self-exploration, as she contemplates how she can become her own sanctuary. Although the journey may not be a short one, she intends to carry this reflection into the future, viewing it as a legacy from this challenging time.

As an additional note, the issue showcases photographs from the exhibition "The World That Will Come," which involved 50 Italian and international photographers. Each photographer provided a representation of the anticipated future, along with a self-portrait demonstrating their work process. The exhibition will be displayed digitally, starting from mid-May, and can be accessed online.

Readers can follow the progression of the project, including behind-the-scenes and pre-launch updates, on the social media accounts of the associated publication. The photographers will also participate in a series of talks and video interviews, allowing viewers to gain a deeper understanding of their work and perspectives. The exhibition catalog will be available for download on the publication's website.

  1. The author plans to apply the concept of "Be a refuge to yourself" not only to her personal growth but also to her lifestyle, work, and even home-and-garden, aiming to create a serene environment that nurtures her.
  2. In her quest for personal development, the author finds inspiration from the photographs in the "The World That Will Come" exhibition, particularly the work process self-portraits, as they provide a tangible link between the anticipated future and the creative process, contributing to her education-and-self-development.
