Shift towards Open-Air Amphitheater from Large Sports Arenas
In the heart of Schneverdingen, the Osterwald Sports Center is undergoing a significant transformation, as part of the city's sports development planning. The focus is on creating a more accessible, user-friendly, and versatile sports facility that caters to a wide range of sports enthusiasts.
The participation process in the planning allows active participants to report their experiences, aiming to initiate positive changes. One such suggestion comes from sports scientist Dr. Arne Göring, who proposes a multi-purpose outdoor hall for flexible training in various sports. This innovative idea could solve space shortage issues for club sports.
The multi-purpose hall, if built, would be climate-neutral, as no heating is installed, and its management could be handled by TV Jahn, with digital booking available against a small usage fee. Cost estimates range from 150,000 to 250,000 euros.
However, navigating the Osterwald sports center grounds remains challenging for many participants, and the sports center is poorly signposted, causing confusion. To improve this, club representatives have proposed solutions, including the closure of the entrance at Stockholm Street to streamline traffic flow, as suggested by Hendrikje Koester.
The old changing room block at the sports center has not been used for a long time and is considered an eyesore by some, while others want to preserve its 1960s architecture. Meanwhile, a foot and cycle path to the stadium is desired by participants to encourage active and sustainable transportation.
In addition, a kind of sports school is envisioned to introduce children to various sports regardless of disciplines. This aligns with Mayor Meike Moog-Steffens's passion for early promotion of movement for children under eight years old.
The city is also planning a multi-generational roller sports facility to replace the dilapidated skate park. These improvements aim to promote voluntary engagement and financially support sports offerings, making sports more accessible and enjoyable for all.
A concrete example of a similar multi-purpose hall can be found at the University of Oldenburg. With these plans, Schneverdingen aims to create a sports center that serves its community well into the future.
