Ruhrtriennale 2025 Wraps Up in Bochum
The Ruhrtriennale 2025, a three-year festival of contemporary art, has come to an end in the city of Bochum and other locations across the Ruhr region. Over the course of the festival, more than 630 artists from 38 countries performed in 35 productions and 136 events.
The festival, which ran from July to September, transformed the industrial architecture of the Bochum region into a series of performance spaces. Some of the notable venues included the Turbine Hall, Wunderland festival center, and the Jahrhunderthalle.
One of the highlights of the Ruhrtriennale 2025 was the music theater production of the Young Triennale GenZ Don't Cry, which was held in the Turbine Hall. Another significant event was the world premiere of Guernica Guernica by FC Bergman, which took place in the Jahrhunderthalle.
The festival organisers did not specify the number of remaining paid events, but more than 36,000 people attended paid events throughout the festival. Additionally, around 41,000 people took advantage of free offers such as workshops, exhibitions, or festival parties.
Barrier-free offers, such as DGS interpretations and inclusive formats, were particularly well-received at the Ruhrtriennale 2025. However, the organisers did not mention any remaining barrier-free offers for the remaining events of the festival.
The Ruhrtriennale 2025 featured a diverse group of artists from various disciplines like dance, theater, and music. Notable participants included Akram Khan, Familie Flöz, Maja Zade, Thomas Ostermeier, Albert Ostermaier, Frank Hoffmann, René Pollesch, Marcos Morau, Ohad Naharin, and many others.
As the festival draws to a close, the Mortier Awards will be presented in the Jahrhunderthalle on September 21. For more information about the program and events in Bochum during the Ruhrtriennale 2025, visit www.ruhrtriennale.de.
