Summer Festival Invitation: "Maschinendorf" and "GarageLab" extend invitations to the public for a creative event in Flingern, Düsseldorf

On a vibrant Saturday, the 7th of May, the Makerspace Maschinendorf on Birken Street came alive with a programme of workshops, lectures, and performances. This event, organised by the association GarageLab, showcased the growing trend of hands-on engagement with 3D printing in the creative community.

Michael Berger, a goldsmith, led the 3D printing workshop, guiding participants through the individual work steps. The workshop was so popular that it had to be repeated several times. Visitors could also watch a live printing of a teapot and learn about the technology first-hand.

In the metal shop, Florian Knobel demonstrated the capabilities of the CNC milling machine. Meanwhile, in the woodshop, large saws were used to create artistic pieces. The workshop program was diverse, offering T-shirt design with screen printing, woodturning for beginners, a ceramics taster course, working with a laser cutter, and fermenting.

Markus Lezaun, managing director of Maschinendorf, and Kristin Parlow from the board of the association GarageLab, expressed positive evaluations of the event. They noted that it was inspiring for hundreds of visitors of all ages.

The event covered 2,500 square meters and included culinary offerings. It concluded in the courtyard of Birken Street with cooled drinks and culinary delights. For more information about Maschinendorf, visit this link. For more information about GarageLab, visit this link.

The popularity of these workshops is supported by broader market trends showing increased consumer-level 3D printer sales. According to a 2025 market report, there's been a 15% year-over-year rise in entry-level 3D printer shipments, mostly driven by affordability and usability for individual creators and small businesses.

Over 60 percent of the event's visitors and workshop participants were women, reflecting the growing interest of females in these creative and technological fields. The event exemplified the trend of providing platforms for artisans and creators to gain hands-on experience, share knowledge, and push the boundaries of traditional crafts by incorporating digital fabrication.

In summary, the Makerspace Maschinendorf event showcased the growing trend of 3D printing workshops among creatives and artisans. The event served as an incubator for creativity and experimentation, fostering skill development in modeling, prototyping, and fabrication. This trend reflects a broader shift toward hands-on, technology-enabled creativity in the arts and crafts sector.

This event at Makerspace Maschinendorf, with its diverse workshops, offered more than just learning about 3D printing – it was a platform for exploring fashion-and-beauty, as participants could attend T-shirt design with screen printing and a ceramics taster course. Furthermore, home-and-garden enthusiasts could watch a live 3D printing of a teapot and learn about the technology, demonstrating the versatility of 3D printing in lifestyle innovations.
