Survey by RACV My Home: Share Your Opinions

In an effort to better understand the home safety concerns and practices of Victorians, the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV) has announced the launch of its new survey, the RACV My Home survey. The survey is open for participation for the next six weeks and aims to gather opinions from a wide range of Victorians, including older residents living in granny flats, apartments, or downsized properties.

The RACV My Home survey joins the RACV's Have your say series, which includes the popular RACV My Melbourne Road and RACV My Country Road surveys. This latest survey will focus on home safety, a topic that encompasses security, accidents, and natural disasters.

The survey inquires about various aspects of home safety. For instance, it asks Victorians about what motivates them to keep their homes safe, if they've ever had a dangerous or injurious home job, and any recent or planned home changes. It also seeks to understand the safety measures Victorians currently employ in their homes and their thoughts on future homes.

The survey also aims to hear from renters about their experiences in asking for improvements or repairs from their landlords. Renters, who often rely on their landlords or rental providers for home safety, are in a unique position to provide valuable insights.

Victorians face a variety of risks, from burglary to natural disasters such as floods, bushfires, and earthquakes. The survey will gather information on how Victorians are preparing for these risks, with some already retrofitting their homes to make them more resilient.

The survey also covers home security, with examples of options available to Victorians including proper locks, security cameras, alarms, and outdoor lighting. Learning to burglar-proof your home is essential for improving home security, and the survey will provide valuable insights into Victorians' understanding and implementation of these measures.

The survey takes around eight minutes to complete and will provide invaluable data on the safety of homes in Victoria. After the survey closes, the results will be released to the public and shared with government and stakeholders to inform them about what safety in the home means to Victorians.

It's important to remember that when it comes to household maintenance jobs such as electrical work, major plumbing work, roof repairs, and anything to do with gas, these tasks should always be left to qualified tradespeople. This is to ensure the safety of both the home and its occupants.

RACV Head of Policy James Williams believes the survey could help RACV advocate on behalf of all Victorians about home safety. He emphasised the importance of understanding the home safety concerns and practices of Victorians to develop effective strategies for improving home safety across the state.

For accurate details on the RACV My Home survey and the specific home safety topics it covers, you may want to consult the RACV official website or contact RACV directly.

The RACV My Home survey, part of RACV's Have your say series, extends its focus to home safety within the home-improvement, home-and-garden, and lifestyle domains. By asking Victorians about their home improvement projects, safety measures, and home maintenance jobs, the survey aims to shed light on household safety practices and needed improvements across various types of residences. Recognizing the unique insights renters might offer, the survey also seeks to gather information about their experiences with landlords regarding property safety and repairs.
