Survey Exposes UK Builders' Heat Pump Knowledge Gap
A survey reveals a significant knowledge gap among UK builders regarding heat pumps, with 44% unaware of their benefits as gas and oil boiler alternatives. Only 30% feel comfortable advising customers on their installation. Meanwhile, E.ON has partnered with sustainability expert Charlie Luxton to promote fossil fuel alternatives.
The lack of understanding extends to homeowners, with 56% deterred by air source heat pump costs, including installation. Another 28% are concerned about system changes, and 24% are unsure about the technology. However, heat pumps are proven to be three to four times more efficient than LPG, oil, electricity, and gas boilers.
More than half (56%) of UK builders lack the necessary information to advise on heat pumps. This knowledge gap is concerning, given that half of homeowners believe heat pumps are too expensive to install, with 11% unaware of the available Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant.
The partnership between E.ON and Charlie Luxton aims to educate and bridge this knowledge gap. It is crucial for builders and homeowners to understand the benefits and viability of heat pumps to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels.
