Twenty years of wedded bliss, two boisterous teens, and schedules busier than the highways on Black Friday - and yet, Jana Ina, 48, and her man, Giovanni Zarrella, 47, never miss a beat. "We ain't got no time for rivalry, just support, bro!" Jana Ina exclaimed during a shoot for energy provider Eon at their testing lab in Essen.
Although their lives are far from being a walk in the park, the couple has mastered the art of keeping their noses to the grindstone. Between shows, broadcasts, and the kids' appointments, their calendars are a veritable whirlwind. "We've got a shared family calendar to keep it all straight, honey," the presenter explains. "Family comes first, and sometimes it means sacrificing a few Z's, but it's all worth it for our kiddos' special moments."
Planning the 20th Anniversary
Their 20th wedding anniversary is just around the corner in August. No concrete plans have been made yet, but they don't need fortune tellers to know that the Zarrellas prefer impromptu decisions. "Living day by day, that's our motto," Jana Ina chuckles. Privacy matters to them, and they're experts at drawing the line between their personal and professional lives. "I give glimpses of our daily life on Instagram, like the chaos of raising teens, but the kids stay off the radar, and that's how it should be," she says.
Their charming attitude has endeared them to the public, making them approachable, even in the most unlikely places like the supermarket or bakery. "People treat us like friends or neighbors," Jana Ina shares. "My husband is always chatting with the bakers, singing a tune, exchanging pleasantries - as long as people are being cool, we're cool."
A Green-Friendly Energy-Saving Team
The Zarrellas are no strangers to teamwork, applying their collaborative spirit to energy-saving projects as well. "Gio keeps an eye on our smart tariffs so I can charge my banger when it's cheapest, and I make sure to switch off lights or unplug devices," Jana Ina explains. The kids pitch in too, always reminding their folks to flip the light switch when the sun's shining bright.
Sustainability is a natural part of Jana Ina's daily life, and going green is an essential part of their lifestyle. As they eyesight of their neighbor's solar panels, Jana Ina felt inspired. "I thought to myself, 'Those look pretty nifty!' She says. "I took our pooch out for a stroll and did some research. Solar panels at my casa sounds like a winner!" And just like that, another brilliant idea was born.
The transition from a hybrid car to a fully electric one was a no-brainer for Jana Ina and Giovanni. "The environment's our priority, and saving a few bucks doesn't hurt either," Jana Ina adds with a wink. Husband Giovanni, the thrifty Swabian he is, couldn't agree more. "Saving energy isn't just about helping Mother Earth, it's about conquering those electricity bills," he quips.
"We turn off lights when we ain't using 'em and unplug devices when they're not in action," Jana Ina continues. "There are so many ways to save energy these days. Every little bit helps, and it all adds up to a big impact by the end of the year. It's about doing your part to protect the planet."
