The Ned Joins the Our Safer City's Safe Haven Scheme in the City of London
The City of London's Our Safer City initiative has received a significant boost with the addition of a landmark venue to its Safe Haven network. The Ned, a hotel and members' club located next to Bank Junction in the former Midland Bank headquarters, has joined the scheme.
The Safe Haven scheme provides safe spaces for people feeling vulnerable, and The Ned has completed a short training session to offer reassurance and basic assistance as part of the initiative. Participating premises in the network include cafes, shops, offices, and community venues.
Paul Gorry, Head of Security at The Ned, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that the venue wanted to take part in the community initiative due to concerns about crimes against women in public spaces. Gorry also personally finds the Safe Haven scheme important due to having a large volume of people using the venue and caring for the safety of important women in his life.
The Safe Haven app can be downloaded from Google Play for Android devices and the App Store for Apple devices. The app, which is growing quickly, allows users to easily find participating venues, including The Ned. Registration for the Safe Haven scheme and the app is free and can be done by visiting oursafercity.co.uk or emailing [email protected].
Lily Prior and Eren Bessim from Safer Business Network helped The Ned with internal training to align their team with the Safe Haven scheme. The City of London Crime Prevention Association encourages other premises in the City of London to join the Safe Haven scheme.
Don Randall MBE, Chairman of the City of London Crime Prevention Association and the Our Safer City initiative, welcomed The Ned joining the Safe Haven scheme. The Ned's decision to join the Safe Haven scheme was inspired by an Expo and the work of Randall, Chief Inspector Caroline Hay MBE, Ayesha Fordham from Employers' Initiative on Domestic Abuse, and Sarah Walker from Women's Night Safety Charter.
Paul Gorry believes that The Ned has a social responsibility towards staff, guests, and the public to commit to public safeguarding. The Ned offers ten restaurants, bars, 250 hotel bedrooms, and a private members' club, making it a popular destination in the City of London. With its addition to the Safe Haven network, it is now even easier for people in need of support to find a safe space.
