Turmchen Library's 'Star Wars Reads Day' Teaches Kids Coding and Crafts
The Turmchen family library hosted its annual 'Star Wars Reads Day' event this year, drawing 16 children aged 6 to 11. Led by library employees Sabrina Leschny and Jennifer Melhorn, the day was filled with fun activities and learning opportunities.
The event kicked off with a captivating story about R2-D2 and C-3PO, setting the stage for a day immersed in the Star Wars universe. Throughout the day, the young participants designed their own galactic galaxies and crafted their very own R2-D2 units using paper and Washi Tape. They also had the chance to test their knowledge with a Star Wars facts quiz and solved engaging puzzles.
In addition to these creative tasks, the children were introduced to the world of programming. They learned their first programming sequences using Bee-Bots, interactive robot toys designed for young learners. Each child's efforts were recognised with a certificate, officially making them trained droid builders.
The 'Star Wars Reads Day' at the Turmchen library once again proved to be a hit among the young attendees. Through interactive storytelling, hands-on crafting, and early programming lessons, the event successfully combined fun and learning, fostering a love for both Star Wars and technology among the participating children.
