UK Unveils Rewards for Outstanding Young Rail Photography Talent

The National Railway Museum and the Railway Photographic Society are hosting the Young Railway Photographer of the Year competition for the second time, with FUJIFILM UK joining as a co-sponsor. This eagerly anticipated event seeks to discover the UK's most outstanding young railway photographers.

Three Fujifilm X-T5 Silver digital cameras with XF16-50mm lenses will be awarded to the overall winner and category winners aged 18 and under, as well as 19-25. Other prizes include a tour on Network Rail's New Measurement Train, a GB Railfreight cab simulator experience, heritage railway line tickets, and more.

The competition invites entrants of all photographic abilities, from amateurs to professionals, to submit a portfolio of six images around the Railway 200 theme. Submissions may showcase various aspects such as railway and carriage design, architecture, travel experiences, landscapes, or innovation and ingenuity.

Shortlisted entries will be exhibited at the National Railway Museum in York and Locomotion in Shildon as part of Railway 200 celebrations, marking the bicentenary of the modern railway in 2025.

In the inaugural competition held in 2022, Bradley Langton (20 at the time) from Driffield was crowned the overall winner with an exceptional image of an LNER InterCity 225 at London King's Cross station, captured in standing water.

Andreas Georghiades, head of marketing at FUJIFILM UK, expressed enthusiasm about the sponsorship, looking forward to seeing the creativity of young photographers and their unique perspectives on our rail heritage.

Railway 200 is a year-long UK-wide campaign led by partners across the rail industry, celebrating the 200-year history of the modern railway and inspiring a new generation of young talent to explore careers in rail. Various activities and events are planned for January 2025 to commemorate the rail industry's past, present, and role in a sustainable future.

The competition is co-organized with the Railway Photographic Society and supported by FUJIFILM UK, Network Rail, Mortons Media, GB Railfreight (GBRf), and Amateur Photographer Magazine.

In the upcoming Rail 200 celebrations, the winners of the Young Railway Photographer of the Year competition will be awarded not only the prestigious title but also prizes such as Fujifilm cameras and lenses, experiential tours, and more, acknowledging their outstanding railway photographs. The photography exhibition, showcasing the talents of young photographers and their creative insights into the lifestyle and home-and-garden of the rail industry, will be displayed at the National Railway Museum and Locomotion as part of the Rail 200 bicentenary festivities.
