Urban development experts go ahead and plant over a thousand trees
Digital Communication, Go Green!
Breaking News
For each customer who chose digital communication over postal mail during a promotional period, a linden or cherry tree was planted
City of Ingolstadt, April 15, 2025. A forest landscape refresh: Equipped with a curved shovel, sifting soil and debris, placing a delicate sapling into the loamy earth, filling the hole and gently tapping it down - repeat, move 1.50 meters ahead. This is how the employees of Stadtwerke Ingolstadt (SWI) spent their day, rather than behind desks, but at a tree-planting event in Stammham's Stammham district, close to the cozy Högnerhäusl inn.
Last fall, SWI ran a campaign encouraging their customers to opt for digital delivery of bills and documents via email and the online customer portal instead of traditional post. Over 1,500 customers agreed to join the green movement, and the SWI celebrated their choice by planting a tree in the region for each of them.
"This minor initiative is just one step in our larger journey. We're conserving resources today and contributing to the creation of climate-adaptive forests for future generations," says SWI CEO, Matthias Bolle, who rolled up his sleeves and participated in the tree-planting event alongside his team. Approximately 25 colleagues, under the guidance of the "Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald," planted winter linden and cherry tree saplings in the earth. These species are more climate-resilient options compared to the spruce, which once dominated the area. All in all, 1,537 new trees were born as a result of the SWI campaign.
Stadtwerke Ingolstadt🌳 Environmentally-friendly choices bring greener cities! 🌳
In the spirit of digital communication, the choice to receive bills and documents electronically contributes to the promotion of climate-change awareness in environmental science. The City of Ingolstadt's initiative, led by Stadtwerke Ingolstadt (SWI), saw 1,537 winter lindens and cherry trees planted, enhancing the home-and-garden landscapes and fostering a more sustainable lifestyle. This eco-friendly move is a testament to the possibility of using technology for a greener future.
