April brings the return of the Read Irish Women Challenge (RIWC22), a month-long celebration spotlighting exceptional books penned by Irish women. Each day, a new reading challenge prompt will be released, such as "a book with something that flies on the cover" on April 5th. This delightful literary affair invites participation by using the hashtag #ReadIrishWomenChallenge22 and/or #RIWC22. Engaging discussions and discoveries can be found on Twitter, Instagram, and this year, TikTok. Local Dubray bookstores and their staff will also contribute to daily prompts, with the Dubray website featuring a plethora of content by and about Irish women writers throughout the month. The spring lineup of upcoming books by Irish women promises an exciting reading experience.

It's that time of year again, folks! April marks the start of the #ReadIrishWomenChallenge22, where we enthusiastically delve into the works of remarkable Irish women authors. Buckle up, bookworms! With a fresh prompt for each day of the month, we're going to have a blast. Need an example? On April 5, the theme is "a book with something that flies on the cover." I can hardly wait to witness the creative fun unfolding among our fellow readers!

Spending April immersed in thought-provoking discussions about new and classic titles is a thrill I never tire of. If you'd like to join the party, simply use the hashtag #ReadIrishWomenChallenge22 and/or #RIWC22. The excitement doesn't stop on Twitter and Instagram – for the first time ever, the challenge is going live on TikTok too! So let's get this show on the road and share our responses to the daily reading challenge prompts!

Our local Dubray bookstore is supporting the challenge this year, so drop by your local store to see which titles appeal to the staff. There'll also be plenty of features by and about Irish women writers on the Dubray website throughout the month, so stay tuned!

This spring's list of books by Irish women is nothing short of thrilling; the incoming titles are a masterpiece! The backlist of books by Irish women is just as impressive, and it's the perfect moment to champion those overlooked gems.

Many books have suffered due to the pandemic, publishing during those lockdown days without the usual fanfare – no launch parties! no sweet treats with friends! – so let's give them the recognition they deserve by shining a spotlight on them.

With the world looking gloomier by the day, we've got a prompt to remind us of a "book that fills you with hope." But we can't turn a blind eye to the chaos unfolding, either, so a "book set during a time of conflict" is also on the menu.

The last year has taken an immense toll on women, particularly as they bear the brunt of violence both privately and as a society. That's why we've included a prompt focused on "books featuring women dealing with violence."

There's an essential dialogue happening among Irish women now, discussing the wounds inflicted on them both personally and collectively by individuals and institutions. There are more than a few vital books on the topic that deserve our attention.

Let's share our admiration for the Irish women we adore – both fictional and real-life heroes – by talking about "a book with a character you wish you knew in real life." Tell me, who's yours?

Last but not least, since I come from a family of strong, complex women (as the eldest of three sisters, naturally), I'd love to hear about your favorite "book with sisters." Let's immerse ourselves in the beauty and intricacies of their relationships!

I'm looking forward to exchanging views on social media and chatting in person at Dubray stores! Happy reading!
