World Animal Day in Assam Honors Zubeen Garg, Raises Awareness
World Animal Day was recently celebrated in Sonitpur district, Assam, with a series of interactive awareness programmes organized by State Veterinary Dispensaries of Khelmati and Singri in collaboration with local schools and community groups. The events paid tribute to late Assamese icon Zubeen Garg and his advocacy for animal welfare.
The programmes focused on various aspects of animal care and conservation. Sessions on dog-bite prevention and dog behavior were conducted to educate participants about responsible pet ownership. Additionally, workshops on the conservation of local wildlife, such as the lesser adjutant stork, were held to raise awareness about the importance of preserving these species.
In remembrance of Zubeen Garg, a short quiz was organized to honor his advocacy against animal sacrifice and for animal welfare. The late icon's own advocacy for animal rights was recognized and celebrated during the event. Furthermore, art-based activities promoting human-animal coexistence were held at No. 2 Kakalbhagi L.P. School, Khelmati, allowing participants to engage creatively with the theme.
The World Animal Day celebrations in Sonitpur district successfully raised awareness about animal welfare and conservation. Through educational sessions, quizzes, and art activities, the event honored the legacy of Zubeen Garg and encouraged participants to appreciate and respect animals in their community.
